Polyester Wadding for Aquarium & Pond Filtration
Polyester Wadding for Aquarium & Pond Filtration
Many aquarium and pond keepers use plain polyester wadding as mechanical filter floss — it's the same material sold in small pre-cut bags under aquarium branding, usually at a much higher price per metre. Our bulk rolls let you cut exactly what you need and keep spare filter media on hand for regular changes.
Why polyester wadding works as filter media
- Mechanical filtration – traps fine debris and particulates as water passes through, keeping tanks and ponds clear
- Doesn't compact – open, lofty structure keeps water flowing freely through canister and pond filters
- Inert & safe – plain white polyester with no dyes or treatments to leach into water
- Cheap to replace regularly – buying by the metre works out significantly less than pre-packaged aquarium filter floss
Which weight to choose
2oz is the standard choice for filter floss – thin and loose enough to allow good water flow while still catching fine particles. For heavier-duty pond filters or higher bioloads, 4oz gives more mechanical filtration at the cost of needing more frequent flow checks.
Available in 27" and 54" widths — buy a single metre to trial, or a bulk roll if you're maintaining multiple tanks or a large pond filter and want to always have fresh media ready.
FAQs
Is this the same as branded aquarium filter floss? Yes — aquarium filter floss is plain polyester wadding, typically repackaged and sold at a premium in small quantities. Ours is the same material, unbranded and sold by length.
How often should I replace filter floss? This depends on your tank's bioload, but many keepers change floss every 1–2 weeks. Buying in bulk by the metre makes frequent changes far more affordable.
