Tack & Staple Sizing Guide

← Back to all guides

Choosing the right fixing depends on the fabric weight and the depth you're fixing into:

  • Tacks (improved or fine, blued or bright): traditional choice for fixing hessian, webbing, and show fabric to show-wood frames. Common sizes run from 6mm up to 16mm — shorter for fine fabric and finishing, longer for webbing and hessian into solid timber.
  • Staples (series 71, 80, 13, 53): faster than tacking and the standard choice for production work. Series 71 and 80 are most common for general upholstery; leg length (6–25mm) should suit your frame timber without poking through.
  • Gimp pins: small, fine pins in colours to match trim and gimp braid, used for the final decorative fixing rather than structural work.
