Choosing Needles for Hand Stitching
Different upholstery techniques need different needle shapes:
- Curved (half-circle) needles: used for blind stitching and edge roll work where a straight needle can't be worked through the stuffing.
- Straight mattress needles: long, double-pointed needles used for deep buttoning and through-stuffing ties.
- Packing needles: heavy, slightly curved needles for closing up stuffed cushions and bolsters.
