Hessian Weight Guide
Hessian comes in different weights (measured in oz per square yard, or g/m²) and the right one depends on the job:
- 6oz – 7oz: light scrim hessian, used for covering wadding and as a base for stuffing ties where you don't need much strength — arms, wings, and decorative scrim work.
- 10oz: the general workhorse weight — webbing support on backs and lighter seats, and bridle ties.
- 12oz – 15oz: heavier seat hessian, used over webbing on load-bearing seats where springs or stuffing need a strong base.
As a rule of thumb: the more weight the hessian needs to carry (springs, deep stuffing), the heavier the oz you want.
