Covering Your Own Buttons
Covering buttons in your own fabric is a simple process once you've got the right size mould for your button press:
- Cut a circle of fabric roughly 2–2.5x the diameter of the finished button, to allow enough fabric to wrap around and grip the back.
- Place the fabric face-down in the press mould, then the front button shell on top.
- Press down firmly (or strike with the press tool) to fold the fabric edges over and crimp them into the shell.
- Fit the back/eye piece and press again to lock the fabric in place.
Mould sizes are measured in lines (e.g. #24, #36, #45) — check your press and button blanks use the same line size before ordering.
